The Nevada Cancer Coalition (NCC) recently hosted a Community of Practice (CoP) focused on Patient Navigation to increase the number of professionals in Nevada trained in oncology patient navigation, including assisting with connection to cancer screenings and supportive resources within their community/organization. Participation expanded the reach and capacity of navigation in diverse communities across Nevada including rural and frontier, and those who serve African American and Hispanic clients. This page hosts content from the community of practice so others can benefit from these resources. The CoP used the George Washington Cancer Center Oncology Patient Navigation Fundamentals training. Participants were expected to complete the training and attend all CoP virtual sessions/workshops. The total time commitment was estimated at 20-25 hours across a three-month period.
At completion, participants:
- Earned a Certificate of Completion for the GW Oncology Patient Navigation Fundamentals Training, a standardized training necessary for centers seeking CMS Navigation Reimbursement.
- Had connection with a network of trained oncology patient navigators in Nevada.
- Gained a deeper knowledge of Nevada-specific resources and systems.
- Became a part of the ThriveNV Oncology Navigation Network.
